News: One student drowned and two others were swept away in the Hasdeo River during a picnic in Janjgir-Champa district, Chhattisgarh.
About Hasdeo River

- Hasdeo River flows through Chhattisgarh.
- Origin: It originates from a small lake near Ambikapur in Chhattisgarh.
- Course of river: It flows through Surguja, Korea, and Bilaspur districts before merging with the Mahanadi River near Akaltara in Janjgir–Champa district, Chhattisgarh.
- It flows through the Hasdeo Arand forest in Chhattisgarh.
- Tributaries: The major tributary are Jhumka, Bania, Hasiya , Siddhbaba river, Magazine river, Gage, Chorai, Tan and Ahiran.
- Tributary of: It is a major tributary of the Mahanadi River.
- Dam situated on river: The Hasdeo Bango Dam is a vital project located on the river.
- It is the longest, widest dam in Chhattisgarh and the first multi-purpose water project in Chhattisgarh.
- Power plants situated on riverside: Captive power plant of BALCO (Bharat Aluminium Company Limited), coal mines, CSEB, SECL, Gopal explosive factory, and number of thermal power plant are situated along the side of river.
