News: A Myanmar military air strike near a market in rebel-held Rakhine State killed at least 49 people and injured 58 others.
About Rakhine State of Myanmar
- Location: It is located in southwestern Myanmar.
- Bordered by: It is bordered by Chin State to the north, other Myanmar regions to the east, the Bay of Bengal to the west, and Bangladesh to the northwest.
- Capital: Sittwe is the capital of Rakhine State, formerly known as Akyab.
- Geographical Features:
- Extent: Rakhine State stretches from the Naf estuary in the north to the Gwa River in the south.
- Arakan Yoma: The Arakan Yoma forms its eastern boundary and partly separates it from southern Myanmar.
- Coast and islands: It has a long, narrow coastline along the Bay of Bengal, with offshore islands such as Cheduba and Ramree.
- Rivers: Its principal rivers include the Naf estuary, Mayu, Kaladan and Lemro rivers.
