News: India concluded its campaign at the 2026 Asian Games in Aichi-Nagoya with 85 medals, including 21 gold, 27 silver and 37 bronze.

  • Edition: The 20th Asian Games were held in 2026.
  • Official Name: The event was officially known as the 20th Asian Games Aichi-Nagoya 2026.
  • Host Country: Japan hosted the Games.
  • Date: The Games were held from 19 September to 4 October 2026.
  • Sports: The Games featured 43 sports, 71 disciplines and 469 medal events.
  • New Sports: Teqball, mixed martial arts (MMA), padel, surfing, skateboarding, sport climbing and esports were included in the programme.
  • Medal Highlights
    • China finished first, followed by Japan and South Korea.
    • China: 341 medals — 169 gold, 89 silver and 83 bronze.
    • Japan: 269 medals — 83 gold, 95 silver and 91 bronze.
    • South Korea: 150 medals — 39 gold, 43 silver and 68 bronze.

India’s Performance

  • India position: India finished 4th with 85 medals.
  • Medal Tally: India won 21 gold, 27 silver and 37 bronze medals.
    • India had the same 21 gold medals as Uzbekistan, but finished higher because it won more silver medals.
    • India’s 85-medal haul was its second-best, after the record 106 medals (comprising 28 gold, 38 silver and 40 bronze) at Hangzhou 2023.
  • Key Highlights 
    • Cricket: India won both men’s and women’s gold medals.
    • Kabaddi: India won gold in both men’s and women’s events.
    • Hockey: Both Indian teams won gold, with the women ending a 44-year wait for an Asian Games medal.
    • Archery: India won nine medals, including five gold.
    • Boxing and Wrestling: Boxing won three gold and three bronze, while wrestling won six medals, including two gold.
