- Punjab and Gujarat will set up Price Monitoring & Research unit (PMRU). It would be set up by National pharmaceutical Pricing Authority, the apex body which controls and monitors drug prices, in collaboration with the Department of Health and State drug controller.
- PMRU is aimed at a) monitoring the notified prices of medicines, b) detection of violation of the provisions of DPCO, c) pricing compliance and d) ensuring availability of medicines.
- Recently, Kerala became the first state to set up a PMRU to track violation of prices of essential drugs and medical devices under the drugs price control order (DPCO)-the orders issued by Government declaring a ceiling price for essential and lifesaving medicines
