News:International Energy Agency(IEA) has released its annual Global Energy Review 2020 report.

Facts:

International Energy Agency(IEA):

  • Established in 1974 as an autonomous intergovernmental organization under the OECD framework.
  • Aim:To ensure reliable, affordable and clean energy for its member countries and beyond.
  • Headquarters: Paris, France.
  • Focus areas: It has four main areas of focus: a) Energy security b) Economic development c) Environmental awareness and d) Engagement worldwide.
  • Members: It has 30 member countries and eight association countries.
  • India: It became an associate member in 2017.
  • Reports: World Energy Outlook report is released annually.

Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD):

  • It is an intergovernmental economic organisation founded in 1961 to stimulate economic progress and world trade.
  • Headquarters: Paris, France.
  • Total Members: 37
  • India is not a member but a key economic partner.
