- European Union(EU) has said that the Kashmir issue needs to be resolved through bilateral discussions between India and Pakistan.
- This statement came after India’s External Affairs minister briefed the EU on the security situation in Kashmir.
- Recently,India had revoked the special status granted to Jammu and Kashmir under Article 370 of the Constitution and bifurcated the state into two Union Territories — Jammu and Kashmir and Ladakh.
- Following this move,Pakistan had sought the intervention of several foreign countries and the UN in the Kashmir issue. However, besides China,no other country agreed to intervene in the bilateral issue of India and Pakistan.
