News: The Global Liveability Index 2026 was recently released, ranking cities worldwide on different urban liveability and quality of life indicators.
About Global Liveability Index 2026
- The Global Liveability Index evaluates living conditions across cities and serves as a global benchmark for urban liveability, resilience, and quality of life.
- Published by: It is published by Economist Intelligence Unit (EIU).
- Coverage: The index assessed 173 cities using more than 30 qualitative and quantitative indicators.

- Key Findings
- Global Trend:
- Top Three Cities: Copenhagen remained the world’s most liveable city, followed by Vienna and Melbourne.
- Bottom Cities: Damascus remained the least liveable city, while Tripoli and Dhaka were also among the lowest-ranked cities.
- Global Trend: The average global score remained 76.1, as healthcare and education gains were offset by declining stability from geopolitical tensions, conflicts, and civil unrest.
- India Performance:
- Ranking: New Delhi ranked 120th, followed by Mumbai (121st), Chennai (123rd), and Bengaluru (127th).
- Top 100: All four Indian cities remained outside the global top 100.
- Performance: New Delhi and Mumbai showed no change from the previous year.
