Why in the News?

All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE) has launched the AICTE Approval Process Handbook for Academic Year 2024-2027.

What is the AICTE Approval Process Handbook for Academic Year 2024-2027?

Purpose: The handbook elaborates on processes which institutions need to follow while seeking approval from the AICTE to run technical and management programmes/courses.

Validity: The handbook is applicable for the next three years.

Key Features of the Handbook:

1) Extension of Approval: Well-performing institutions can get approval for an extension for up to 3 years.

2) Intake Relaxation: Upper limit on intake for courses offered by well-performing institutions has been relaxed. However, they need to showcase quality infrastructure and qualified faculty before seeking intake.

3) Off-Campus Provision: Well-performing institutions can offer off-campus programs within the jurisdiction of affiliating Universities.

4) New Programs: Undergratuate programs in Computer Applications (BCA) and Management (BBA/BMS) programs brought under the AICTE umbrella.

5) Flexible Learning: Employed professionals can upgrade qualifications at diploma/degree/postgraduate level through flexible learning modes.

6) Innovation Focus: Promotes innovations through the INDOVATION program and by establishing the Institution’s Innovation Council (IIC) on their campuses.

What is an INDOVATION Program?

1) Launched by: AICTE

2) Under this program, AICTE plans to set up INDOVATION centers across the country to carry out Indian Knowledge System (IKS) projects such as validating theories developed in the ancient times, verifying old texts, carrying out translations among others.
