News: The Indian Army issued a ₹30,000 crore tender to BEL to procure five–six regiments of the indigenously developed ‘Anant Shastra’ system.

  • It is an indigenously developed surface-to-air missile system by DRDO.
  • It is designed to provide mobile, short-range air defence against aerial threats such as drones, aircraft, and missiles.
  • It was earlier known as the Quick Reaction Surface-to-Air Missile (QRSAM).
  • Indian Army plans to induct five to six regiments (complete units).
  • Key features
    • Range: The system has an approximate range of 30 km, providing short-range air defence.
    • It is highly mobile and supports fire-on-the-move, enabling detection and interception while in motion.
    • It operates effectively in both day and night conditions across varied terrains.
    • It provides 360-degree surveillance with continuous target tracking for timely engagements.
    • It can engage low-RCS drones as well as fast-moving aircraft and missiles.
