News: National Statistics Office, Ministry of Statistics and Programme Implementation (MoSPI) has released the Annual Survey of Unincorporated Sector Enterprises for 2023-24 for the reference period October 2023- September 2024.
About ASUSE 2023-24
- Primary Objective: To evaluate various economic and operational characteristics of unincorporated non-agricultural establishments.
- Geographical Coverage: Covers the rural and urban areas of whole of India (except the villages in Andaman and Nicobar Islands).
- Sectors Covered: Covers unincorporated non-agricultural establishments belonging to three sectors, namely manufacturing, trade, and other services sector (excluding construction).
- Data Collected: Number of workers, GVA, emoluments paid, fixed asset owned, type of ownership, registration status etc.
- Purpose: Aids policymaking, supports National Accounts Statistics, fulfils requirements of industries, helps in making informed, data-driven decisions.
Key highlights from the ASUSE 2023-24 results:
- Number of Establishments: The total number of establishments in the sector increased substantially from 6.50 crore in 2022-23 to 7.34 crore in 2023-24, representing a growth of 12.84%.
- Gross Value Added (GVA): It rose by 16.52%, driven by a 26.17% growth in other services sector.
- While GVA per worker rose to Rs 1,49, 742 in 2023-24 in current prices, showing a 5.62% increase from 2022-23.
- Strong Labour Market Performance: The sector employed more than 12 crore workers between October 2023 and September 2024, depicting robust labour market growth.
- The percentage of female owned propriety establishments increased from from 22.9% in 2022-23 to 26.2% in ASUSE 2023-24, reflecting an increase in female entrepreneurship.
- Better Digital Penetration: Percentage of establishments using internet has grown significantly from 21.1% in 2022-23 to 26.7% in ASUSE 2023-24, showcasing a strong trend towards digital adoption.
