- The Assam government has formed a 3 member PRANAM (Parents Responsibility and Norms for Accountability and Monitoring) Commission to hear cases under the Assam Employees Parental Responsibility Norms for Accountability Monitoring Act, 2017, or Pranam Act.
- Pranam Act obligates the Assam State government employees to look after their aged and dependant parents and differently-abled siblings who do not have a source of income.
- The Act enables aggrieved parents to lodge complaints against their children. An enquiry would be held and 10 to 15 % of the salary of the govt. employee can be deducted for maintaining the parents or disabled siblings.
