News: Republican Donald Trump won over Democrat Kamala Harris in the US presidential polls. The exit polls and results show how he successfully led his election campaign.

1. Trump focussed on his signature issues like inflation, illegal immigration across the US southern border, which provided him an edge over the Democrat’s Kamala Harris.

2. The emerging trends show that Trump enjoyed greater strength with male voters of colour and with voters under 45 as compared to 2020 polls.

3. Trump also made efforts to persuade the Black and the Latino voters to defect from the Democratic Party. Exit polls from North Carolina show that his efforts succeeded, as it boosted his share of the black vote to 12% from 5% in 2020.

4. Kamala Harris focussed on women voters by raising issues such as abortion rights. She did receive overwhelming support from the black women, but Trump seemed to hold onto the support of white women voters.

5. Trump paid attention to attract male voters, particularly younger men, through social media, sports, podcasts and online gaming.

6. The national exit poll data reveals that Trump has a slight edge over Harris among men between the ages of 18 and 44 and beat her solidly with men 45 and above. For example, in Michigan and Wisconsin, Trump was up 5 percentage points with overall voters under 45 compared to 2020 polls.
