BPSC Syllabus for Prelims 2021

The syllabus for the BPSC Prelims Exam 2021 is the same as that of the previous exams of the BPSC. BPSC syllabus for prelims consists of just one paper on General Studies.

BPSC Prelims – Syllabus

General Studies

The paper on General Studies will include questions covering the following fields of knowledge:

  1. General Science
  2. Current events of national and international importance
  3. History of India and salient features of the history of Bihar
  4. General Geography and geographical division of Bihar and its major river systems.
  5. Indian Polity
  6. Indian Economy and major changes in the economy of Bihar in the post independence period.
  7. Indian National Movement and the part played by Bihar in it
  8. Questions on General Mental Ability.

Here is a detailed breakup of various General Studies sections contained under BPSC Syllabus for Prelims exam 2021:

General ScienceQuestions on General Science will cover general appreciation and under-standing of science, including matters of everyday observation and experience. Questions will not require a special study of any scientific discipline.
Current AffairsCurrent Affairs of national and International importance
History of India and salient features of the history of BiharIn History, emphasis will be on broad general under-standing of the subject in its social, economic and political aspects.

The candidates are expected to be familiar with the broad aspects of the history of Bihar.

General Geography and geographical division of Bihar and its major river systems.In Geography, emphasis will be on geography of India and Bihar.

Questions on the Geography of India and Bihar will relate to physical, social and economic Geography of the country, including the main features of Indian agricultural and natural resources.

Indian polityQuestions of Indian Polity will test knowledge on the country’s political system, Panchayati Raj, community development and planning in India and Bihar.
Indian EconomyQuestions on Indian Economy and major changes in the economy of Bihar in the post independence period.
Indian National movement and part played by Bihar in itQuestions on the Indian National Movement will relate to the nature and character of the nineteenth century resurgence, growth of nationalism and attainment of Independence.

Candidates will be expected to answer questions on the role of Bihar in the freedom movement of India.

After Prelims, the next stage is Mains. The following section discusses the detailed BPSC syllabus for Mains 2021, including the pattern of the Mains exam.

BPSC Syllabus for Mains 2021

BPSC Main exam consists of four papers –

  1. General Hindi
  2. General Studies Paper-1
  3. General Studies Paper-2
  4. Optional Paper.

Let us take a detailed look at the BPSC syllabus for Mains exam.

BPSC SyllabusMains
General Hindi The paper of General Hindi will be qualifying in nature. The syllabus for the qualifying paper will be equivalent to Secondary level of the Bihar School Education Board (BSEB). The paper will be of subjective in nature;

Out of the 100 marks, candidates are required to secure the qualifying marks (30%) in the paper. For this qualifying paper, any good book of school standard is enough.

The distribution of the marks is as follows:

  • Essay: 30 Marks
  • Grammar: 30 Marks
  • Syntax: 25 Marks
  • Summarisation: 15 Marks
General Studies 1This paper consist of the following sections:

  1. Modern History of India
  2. Indian Culture
  3. Contemporary events of national and international importance
  4. Statistical Analysis, diagrams and graphs
Modern History of India and Indian Culture will cover the broad history of the country (with special reference to Bihar) from about the middle of 19th century. The modern history of Bihar will include questions on the introduction and expansion of western education (including technical education). It will also have questions on Bihar’s role in the freedom struggle of India. Questions will relate to the Santhal Uprising, 1857 in Bihar, Birsa movement, Champaran Satyagrah and the Quit India Movement of 1942. A knowledge of the chief features of Mauryan and Pal art and Patna Qulam painting will be expected from the examinees. It would
also include questions or Gandhi, Tagore and Nehru.Statistical analysis, graphs and diagrams
will include exercises to test the candidate’s ability to draw common sense conclusions from information presented in statistical, graphical or diagrammatical form and to point out deficiencies, limitations or inconsistencies therein.
General Studies 2
This paper consist of the following sections:

  1. Indian (and Bihar) Polity
  2. Indian (and Bihar) Economy
  3. Indian (and Bihar) Geography
  4. Role and impact of Science and Technology in the development of India (and Bihar)
Indian Polity: It will include questions on the political system in India including
Bihar.Indian Economy & Geography: Questions will be put on planning in India and the physical, economic and social geography of India and Bihar.Role and impact of science and technology in the development of India: Questions will be asked to test the candidate’s awareness of the role and impact of science and technology in India and Bihar. Emphasis will be on applied
aspects.
