- The Union Cabinet has approved the proposal for establishment of Rashtriya Kamdhenu Aayog. It seeks for conservation protection and development of cows and their progeny. The announcement in this regard was made in the interim Budget for 2019-20.
- It will work in collaboration with Central/State Government institutions/ departments engaged in the task of research in the field of breeding and rearing of cow, organic manure, biogas etc.
- It will function to a) provide the policy framework and direction to the cow conservation and development programmes and b) ensure proper implementation of laws with respect to the welfare of cows.
- The impact of setting up of the Rashtriya Kmadhenu Aayog include a) conservation, protection and development of cattle population including that of indigenous breeds and b) increased inclusive growth of livestock sector- this would benefit women, and small and marginal farmers.
