News: The Indian government has directed telecom service providers (TSPs) in the country to mandatorily enable Calling Name Presentation (CNAP) service.
About Calling Name Presentation (CNAP) service

- The Department of Telecommunications (DoT) has directed all telecom service providers to introduce the Calling Name Presentation (CNAP) service across all service areas from first November.
- Aim: It is intended to help users identify incoming callers and address concerns around online fraud.
- Features of the service:
- Under the service, the name of the caller, as recorded in the subscriber database of the originating telecom service provider, will be displayed on the recipient’s phone along with the caller’s number.
- In the case of international calls from unsaved numbers, the display will show ‘International Call’.
- The service will be provided to all users without requiring a separate request.
- Introduction of CNAP services in wireless terrestrial networks established using 2G and 3G technologies and in public switched telephone networks will be considered separately.
