News- India has registered two high-yielding synthetic cattle breeds, Karan Fries and Vrindavani, increasing the total number of registered livestock breeds.

About Cattle Breed – Karan Fries

Karan Fries is a synthetic cattle breed developed to achieve higher milk production under Indian conditions.

Developed by: It was developed by the National Dairy Research Institute in Karnal, Haryana.

Crossbreeding of: It is a cross between indigenous Tharparkar cows and Holstein-Friesian bulls.

Key features

High milk yield: It is capable of producing over 3,500 kg of milk during a 10-month lactation period.

High daily productivity: It can deliver peak daily milk yields of up to 46.5 kg.

About Cattle Breed – Vrindavani

Vrindavani is a synthetic cattle breed developed to enhance milk production through scientific breeding.

Developed by: It was developed by the ICAR-Indian Veterinary Research Institute in Bareilly, Uttar Pradesh.

Crossbreeding of: It is a blend of exotic breeds such as Holstein-Friesian, Brown Swiss, and Jersey with indigenous Hariana cattle.
