News: Cyclone Alfred is moving toward Australia’s east coast, posing a threat of heavy rainfall in various regions. Cyclone Alfred

About Cyclone Alfred
- Cyclone Alfred is a tropical cyclone classified as a Category 2 storm. It has sustained winds of 95 km/h and gusts up to 130 km/h.
Note: Category 2 hurricanes (96–110 mph) cause extensive damage, with flying debris, destroyed mobile homes, major damage to buildings, uprooted trees, and prolonged power outages. - Tropical Cyclone Alfred is currently active in the Coral Sea and is expected to affect areas from Double Island Point (Queensland) to Grafton (New South Wales), including major cities like Brisbane, Gold Coast, Sunshine Coast, Byron Bay, and Ballina.
- Cyclone Alfred is unusual for two reasons—it has formed much farther south than usual and is moving at a slow pace. Both factors increase its potential danger.
Why is Cyclone Alfred Moving Slowly?
- A high-pressure system over the Tasman Sea has influenced the cyclone’s westward shift toward populated areas.
- The steering winds are weak, causing the cyclone to linger longer over the region.
- This increases rainfall, extends strong wave activity, and worsens flooding and coastal erosion
