Sir, pardoning power is absolute or not, Shouldn’t we judge it on basis of applicability of judicial review ?
Pardoning power is bound by advice of council of ministers
Yes, I got confused in “Discretion” vs “Absolute”.. thanks
Happens. Keep learning!
u given …. monthly quiz compilation ..? plz reply….
Thank u…
The exercise of power of pardon is not subject to judicial review except where the Presidential decision is arbitrary, irrational, mala fide or discriminatory
I too think ABSOLUTE power of pardoning means no check (judicial review) applicable on it
If it is not bound by advice of CoM – then it should be discretionary !!!
ABSOLUTE and DISCRETIONARY are different terms .
But as the exercise of power of pardon is subject to judicial review where the Presidential decision is arbitrary, irrational, mala fide or discriminatory – it is not ABSOLUTE

5/7…Doubts over question 5..Plz check it forum IAS
Kindly point out your doubt/issue.
In question u asked which is correct but in answer u pointed towards incorrect
Kindly read the options and explanation again.
Statement 1 is incorrect: The chief election commissioner or an election commissioner shall hold office for a term of 5 years or age of 65 years, whichever is earlier.
Statement 2 is correct.
So, answer is b.
So, it is 6 years, and not 5.
Also, there was some issue in posting the explanation. We have updated the same.

. As per Article 114 of the constitution of India, no amount can be withdrawn from the consolidated fund of India without authorisation from the parliament of India or legislature of the states.
It is wrong since Art114 doesn’t talk about legislature of states
Point to be noted….
Same consideration while marking this statement incorrect 🙂
I too marked it wrong by 1st statement 🙂
anyways statement 2 is rejected.. only one option left!

state legislatures have their own consolidated fund of state. i think Q.7 option 1 is wrong. it should be only parliament of India
5/7 🙁
Even after knowing I tend to make mistakes. Politii
But thanks forum
keep going guys 😉
Thanks.
Article 114 does not talk about the State legislature(s) rather CFI is under the authority of Parliament and it would be more difficult to appropriate funds if the state legislatures are involved that’s why it comes under the authority of the Parliament.

This may help solve your doubt # 1
” When a government presents Vote on Account as a part of its Budget exercise; two appropriation bills viz. Appropriation (Vote on Account) Bill and Appropriation Bill of that year are passed””
This line is taken form the link you have shared….
It says When the govt. presents VoA as apart of…….
My doubt # is there an option for govt. for govt. for not presening VoA as an appropriation bill??
I am getting confused ue to grammar.!:P
Hahaha – polity is tricky, game of words.
I am also not sure regarding this. Let’s see any other person comes up with better explanation
