Does madarsa education violate secularism? SC to decide

News: The Supreme Court has reserved its verdict in a case challenging a ruling by the Allahabad High Court, which struck down the Uttar Pradesh Board of Madarsa Education Act, 2004 (Madarsa Act).

1. The Madarsa Act provides a legal framework for imparting religious education, apart from the curriculum of the National Council of Education Research and Training (NCERT).

2. The Act establishes the Uttar Pradesh Board of Madarsa Education, which predominantly comprises of members from the Muslim community.

3. Section 9 of the Act details the functions of the board.

4. Allahabad High Court struct down the Act in its entirety, regarding it as unconstitutional on three grounds: A) Secularism B) Right to Education C) Conflict with Central Law.
