Preparation Strategy of UPSC Topper Kritika Goyal

This was her fourth attempt. In the first two attempts, she could not clear the prelims. In her third attempt, she was selected for DANICS, and currently she is undergoing training in that.

She firmly embraces a quote from the legendary basketball player Michael Jordan, which advises, “Stay committed to the game, and it will reciprocate your commitment. Attempting shortcuts will only leave you shortchanged.”

Reflecting on her previous attempts, she recognized that insufficient practice, particularly in the form of mock tests, hindered her progress. In her second attempt, although she put in substantial effort to practice mock tests, she narrowly missed the CSAT cutoff by one mark. It was only in her third attempt, after clearing the preliminary stage, that she realized the importance of comprehensive preparation. To enhance her performance, she diligently prepared for both papers in the prelims and focused on mock tests.

For UPSC Mains, she adopted a disciplined examination hall-like environment, dividing her time into two cycles from 9 AM to 12 PM and 2 PM to 5 PM for rigorous mock test practice.

For the UPSC Preliminary stage, she diligently completed approximately 50 to 60 mock tests, applying the same rigorous approach to the mains and her law paper.

When it came to interview preparation, she conducted a few, but meaningful, mock interviews and also practiced in front of a mirror in the days leading up to the actual interview.
