Plus points-very positive essay.
An interesting read as was replete with so many examples
Concluded well
Missed/areas of improvement-
1)build premise before giving examples. Back to back examples may not give good impression
2)set the stage in initial paragraphs to give a hint what you are going to talk about. This gives a coherence to essay too and increases curiosity of reader. important in philosophical essay
3)Its good to write simple essay. Still a strong vocab may come in handy to convey the message.
4)can try to bind success and value towards conclusion.
Mind you content was excellent,a little practise can help in improving articulation.

Try to not insert too many examples at one place..try to include them as a add on to make Ur point clear..
Add some perspectives like how values have been changing over time..What values are still holding the world together.
Good essay but work on organising points..

Excellent essay..Introduction is brilliant..
Einstein example could be made shorter.
The adage u wrote in Hindi wrote in English itself.
But in between the structure could be clear like u can compartmentalise what happens when a person is only successful without values, only values without success but still satisfied, both successful and have values.U mentioned all these in your essay but framing can be a bit better..
Overall excellent.

Positives of your essay:
1) nice hand writing
2)Introduced the theme well.even I had mother teresa when I saw the topic.
3)good use of examples.
Problems-
1)stretched the last page I think to bring in Gandhi. could have well ended with Buddha and may be a quote of Gandhi at end was sufficient
2) suggestion to the problems of present were not given. may be can take some ideas from wwe’ conclusion
3)value over success had no fodder but examples.explore the last para of this part(values have upper hand wala)
4)if something is eutopia why would somebody aspire for it?may be ideal or egalitarian society a better word.just a suggestion.
5) write English of quote in conclusion.
Decent attempt.

Ahh…..I still today remember those days when I was busy with my job. I was earnings at one hand and equally spending at other hand. I was diligently performing my duty. I used to attentively do the job what my boss had said to me. But, since I was in the middle rank of hierarchy, I always eager to step up and dreamed to be promoted at next level soon. My boss was ideal to me. I used to try to follow him. He has got his position in only six years of his career. The commitment towards his job and excellent result in every situation had really flattered me. Professionalism was originally reflected through his personality. I could confidently say that he is successful person in his life. Generally, such person always to be the role model of others and so as mine. Once day, he called me in his cabin and asked me to pack up my bag and be ready to go along with him. We were supposed to attend the conference in Hyderabad day after tomorrow. Then he asked to to book the ticket at concessional rate through agent and suggested me to make the bill of first class ticket. First, I didn’t understand and excused him. He again explained the things soberly. Finally, I understood and walked out his cabin slowly. Something horrendously, was storming my thoughts and believes. How a person having lots and achievement and success in his life diminished the human values – honesty, integrity, loyalty etc for few currencies? My mind got confused as prerogatives conferred to him shattered like a card deck. After take a short sigh on table, I woke up and thanked to GOD to remind me the lesson soon.
The word of Albert Einstein has very clear remark on my mind – “Try not to become a man of success but a man of values”.

It is not the first case I came across through. There are several examples around the world. The lesson of human values, morals and ethics are taught us from the very childhood. Even such divergence is seen with anybody in the close relation or family, we severely criticize him. Father beats his son if he lies him. Mother abuse her children for stealing and hurting some one. But, parents and guardians follow the same practices of immoral and unethical work. Why, we appraise the human values, read chapter to chapter in books, learn through practical way in school, family and our surrounding but don’t adhere to it in reality? Why for small and short term benefits, we dilute the human values? Why we preach others but no follow the same? Where the wrong lies? How it should be prevented? When we would become an actual proprietor of human values?

Money, wealth, assets, position etc are not the single cause of comprising the human values but rather it is influenced by several other non-recognized factors like anger, revenge, timidness and so on. But yes, wealth and success are the most prominent factors. If we go little in-depth to find the root causes of depreciation of human values, we would find the very cause in our own society itself. We live in society. Our society is made of people, buildings, wealth, poverty, road, motor cars and so on. We have surrounded ourselves with all materialistic things. Recognition is burning needs of human beings. We all like to be recognized, praised and respected. So, recognition comes from wealth, position, assets and so on. Have we heard of a poor person to be praised for his good deeds? No. If yes, then very few. If our MLA suggests something, we abide. If he prevents us from doing something, we prevented. Why? Because he is our MLA (Most lavished Agent). it doesn’t mean that all MLAs are rich and power holders but most of the case they are. In our family our parents are valued because they are supreme power of us. Similarly, in our country, Prime Minister and Presidents do have. Yesterday, I was watching the farewell ceremony of our Rashtrapati. In his speech, he appealed us to make the country tolerant and cultivate the brotherhood. Nothing new, such statement occasionally come from our leaders. But the difference is, there speech becomes the headlines of newspaper and the same appeal and argument of a common man vaporized in air. I just try to emphasize here that position and wealth recognize first in society and rest of things come later.

And, it is our societal culture. Nothing new in them. It has been observing for the very origin of earth. To some extent, it is necessary and demanded as stronger one are our protector. They are facilitators and help the society to maintain its fabric of integrity and brotherhood. Therefore, they are recognized by us. But the contentious point is – is it sustainable?. Sustainability is defined by is surroundings. If our society is corrupted, we would always appraise the corruption and forgery. We would value wealth and position. Thus, always sustainable. If our society was built on ethical and moral values, corruptions and their proprietors would have never found such place. We only built our society in such way.

Now, the question still remains unanswered – Should be respect human values or success, wealth, power? We are very clever in that sense. Whole life we remain a black sheep in the herd and when we pressed through old age, we run to jungle for so called salvation. It is really funny. Whole life we sang a song of money, power, wealth and suddenly our tunes change to ethics, moral, values and blah blah….God also use to laugh on us. One thing, we must to kept in mind that we are human beings, not animals. We are not machines who are programmed differently in different situation. We have some purpose of life. Human values are the very base of our existence. We need to calibrate ourselves and society. Whatever we have learnt in schools and by parents and teachers and read in books and listen must be applied to our practical life. Yes, it is difficult but the peace of mind and purity of heart can only be achieved through it.

Mahatma Gandhi, Nehru, SC Bose, Tilak are there are innumerable examples we have who moved against the wind and established the foundation of human values. They are most successful persons and equally par above on ethics, principles and human values. They kicked the wealth, assets, position and proved the genuineness and sustainability of human values. They learnt us the real value of humanity and wrote the history of India on which our democracy and secularism and based. They have shown the real path of salvation through man kindness and brotherhood on which our future generation will lead a prosperous life with dignity.

So, the time is to recognize the real assets – human values. The achievement and success based on moral and values are always sustainable and illuminate the other’s life. Success is not all about self satisfaction but also satisfaction of deprived people. One step can change the society and one person can change the world. Start with from family then reach it to mohalla, district and state level. Assimilate the human values in our habits. May problems and adversity come across but be strong footed. Once, the small plant sustain the calamity, it lives longer to decades and other enjoy its shades and fruits for century.

Ho Gaya….shh..:)

Dear brother,
The content part of the essay is amazing but you’ll not get more than 20 marks on this essay. Essay writing is an art and its not GS question. Your English especially the vocabulary and grammar part is very weak. You should work on grammar very seriously. With this grammar the examiner will not even read your essay and it will not let him do justice with the content. If grammar part would have been perfect, I would have given 80-85 marks.

Try not to become a man of success, but rather try to become a man of values.

Mahatma Gandhi and Hitler are two most discussed men in world history. While both of them in a way were leaders, Hitler’s success and subsequent demise is seen through the lens of hatred all over the world while Gandhi is revered. The difference was in the values which Gandhi always propagated. This shows success is transient and bound to be criticised if not accompanied by right values. Thus it is very essential to become a man of values rather than man of success.

Is Success Universal:
Success is something which is not same for everyone. For a business-man, success is huge profits in his business, for a child it may mean securing a good rank in class, for a political party may mean winning the elections. Although the definition amd meaning of success may differ from person to person or institutions, one thing that underlies the success is whether the values and ethics underlying the success were noble or not.

Are values universal?

Values are the ethical and moral principles which define our thoughts and actions. While some values like compassion, sympathy, honesty and integrity are sought after, some values like greed, lust, racial discrimination etc are vices which one should try to avoid. The life lived by right morals and values like that of Gandhi is revered no matter what the degree of success.

Testimony of History for Values over Success:

History is replete with examples which tells us that values are much more important than success. The most famous case of Ashoka winning the Kalinga war is most apt in this case. Although he had won the war, yet at the cost of his values. He had to kill a large mob for his success. Such a success was never a success in real terms. This led him to abandon future expansions and he took the path of non violence, and this is why he is revered in the history.
Similar is the case of Gautam Buddha who left his successful and luxurious life of a prince in search of moral and ethical values of non violence.
Similarly the ancient texts of Vedas and Bhagwat Gita call for right and ethical conduct rather than going for a blind race towards success. The concept of Nishkama Karma i.e. performing our work with full devotion rather than thinking about success, given by Krishna remains relevant to this day.

Contemporary relevance of Values:
In the present world too we see how values are far more important than running towards success.

In social sphere , the example of middle east countries provide us with a case in point. Although they have achieved a lot of economic success through oil exploration yet the social values and morals towards women is still acerbic. The women of the country are subjected to harsh laws with no freedom. The real success eludes the region, which is evident from the low rankings in human development report.

Similarly in the political sphere, we are seeing rapid deterioration in the quality of politicians in our country. They use all the scrupulous methods to win elections like use of money and muscle power. This has led to slow development in the country despite decades of independence. What we need are ethical candidates as our legislatures who stand for equal and noble values. The value of gender equality eludes the politics of our country with low participation of women i legislatures. This has indeed caused hardships and gender bias in social, political and economic sphere.

In the sphere of environment, let us take the case of USA recently announcing to pull out of Paris climate change treaty. The US President may portray it as a success, which will help the US, but in reality, it is a step which shows lack of values like respect towards the mother Earth and a deviation from responsibilities of conserving the nature. That is why such a step was criticized by all nations alike. Projecting oneself as successful while having no regards for values and principles will definitely have disastrous consequences.

The bigger picture of Values

One caution that needs to be taken while seeing the values is that extreme or ethnocentric values should not form the basis of success. The recent killing and lynching of Dalits and Muslims in the country in the name of values of preserving the cows, was portrayed as a success in many caste based organisations. Such propagation of negative values is also harmful for the society in the long run. Similarly the actions of terrorist organisations like ISIS in the name of religious values should not be promoted. Such values will serve no purpose but to degrade the overall society.

Ends dont justify the means:

At last one must remember that the end consequences do not justify the means adopted. The industrial pollution in the name of development, the killing and atrocities on minorities in the name of preservation of culture, the snatching of basic human rights from women in the name of strength or show of male strength amd success can never be justified. All our actions should be guided by ethical and moral values. That is the real meaning of success. Cheating, killing or unethical means may provide us with a shortcut to success, but that success will be short lived. Mahatma Gandhi always kept his values before everything else that is why he is still remember and revered today and will continue to do so in the generations to come.

Dusri bat u cant say ki brain drain worse than drain of wealth h. Both can’t be compared, koi data base to nh h comparison ko ,both are different thing. Lack of Heath service se brain drain ka kya relation h? And job stability india me jyada h. hii.. first of all , it was a nice attempt with good points. the only problem was they were scattered. your starting was bang on. But i felt dat value part could have been better. like how einstein theory of relativity linked to values. I was not able to appreciate that . Android eg was good but could have been better presented. over all good.. keep writing 🙂

Hi..
i think you need some practice before you could write a good essay.Keep writing.
you have lot of ideas but they are not coherent .Also the presentation of essay looks more like an answer letter than an essay-please give appropriate length to a paragraph rather than creating many small para. examples quality and amount is decent. i was not satisfied however with conclusion.
overall good start and potential to improve.

No society can surely be flourishing and happy, of which the far greater part of the members are poor and miserable.

Happy and flourishing society is one where each member has sufficient income and capacity to enjoy rights to live a dignified life.If a large part of society lives in poor and miserable conditions, then it becomes a threat to system sustainability.
Considering India, we have successfully reduced poverty in the post-independence era. But, still, 30% population live BPL as stated by Rangranjan committee.Despite being world fastest growing economy, Ginni-coefficient is on the peak. This shows that growth has not trickled down and conditions of poor and marginal have not improved much.

Can we think our society or nation could remain happy or flourish for a long time without mainstreaming poor and marginals? Certainly not!

This write-up in first part explores why ignoring poor sections is an impediment to the overall growth and sustainability of our nation or society, and in second part suggest to boost outcome of ongoing efforts to mainstream marginals.

A civilized society is known by inscribed values. It gains through the following culture and adopting modern ideas. Poor struggling with starvation lack values, but rich pursue it as being a part of good educating and social environment. Leaving miserables own their fate kills moral consciousness and human values of all members including elite groups.Unfortunately, future generations might stop calling themselves a part of a civilized nation.

Sustainability of economy is another factor that impacts nation’s happiness. Our economy is mainly a domestic oriented which treat sections like middle income, lower income, and poor a market.Their purchasing power and earning capacity fuel economic cycle to run.Failing to uplift marginals and poor will leave them with low earning and expenditure capacity, would be a disaster.A situation of the economic crisis may prevail as happened in 1929 in America.

Along with the sustainable economy, environmental sustainability is also important for a nation to exist and progress.Poor due to low-level of income use conventional sources of energy like cow dung, woods which impact their health and emit comparatively high co2 than clean energy resources. In addition to that, traditional culture of Jhum cultivation and open farm burning among small and medium farmer cause huge air pollution and also harm biodiversity. Moreover, inefficient use of natural resources like water is another matter of concern. So, environment and its resources which we equally share would be difficult to sustain until poor participate in the conservation effort.Raising environment sensitivity and giving access to clean energy is the only choice we have, possible only by mainstreaming poor.

Well working democratic system in which equal participation is ensured essential for a society to grow.Unfortunately, politics instead of educating people drives by the narrow and petty interest which treat poor and needy groups a vote bank.It eventually widens the gap between common mass and leadership. So, in absence effective leadership no institution or society can progress. In the worse case, instability in political system can occur in the form of demands for a separate state which harm unity and sense of brotherhood among different communities.

Internal security is an important aspect that provides secure conditions to a nation to grow. A country is secured when its people have a sense of security.Victims of Poverty, unemployment, and starvation sometimes become a target of extreme ideology and indulge in unfair acts like Naxalism.Though for them it is the only way to justice, ultimately they harm and terrify whole society.Rival nations also find this an opportunity to disturb the peace, like Pakistan in Jammu&kashmir, by fueling terrorism.

So, no matter how advance our culture is, how economic growth we attain, we can not exist as a peaceful and progressive society until each member including backwards-SC/ST, OBC, women, poor and low-income groups develops.Lopsided development of society by keeping large section untouched will impose the threat of environmental degradation and security challenges both at internal and external level.

There is a need to uplift poor and marginalized to the mainstream. For that high commitments are required both at government and social level.
Right based development approaches to ensure welfare is perhaps the right step in right direction.
But, there is need to expand the ambit of Right to education beyond primary to secondary level to enhance earning capacity of semi-skilled workers.
Similarly, Right to health needs to be implemented under the vision of Universal health coverage. This will reduce ‘out of pocket’ expenditure of poor during illness, a prime cause of poverty.
In addition to Health and education, food provided under ‘Right to food’ must include pulses and neutri-cereals to eliminate hidden hunger and starvation in children and women.
Good education, skills, health, and food would help in building human capital which will raise earning capacity and will bring prosperity marginalized masses.
At civil society level, both upper and middle-class members should be able to play their role in social welfare to supplement government efforts.
Children need to be sensitized with problems of poor masses. So that sense of duty could develop to increase helping hands in future.
Business class should focus on how efforts under CSR could be strengthened to maximize benefits for masses.
Moreover, the whole education system that focuses only on skill based growth needs to be revamped to equally concentrate on constitutional values like equality, justice, and freedom and Human rights for making space for poor both in society and our hearts. It could be replicated with Gandhi Talisman.
So, our society like India which comprises a vast number of poor should focus to uplift them.Uplifting poor and miserable is not just a matter of moral responsibility, but also a necessity to ensure our peaceful existence in happy and flourishing society.
