News: The 11th edition of the India-Indonesia Joint Special Forces Exercise GARUDA SHAKTI has commenced in Indonesia.
About Exercise GARUDA SHAKTI 2026
- The Exercise GARUDA SHAKTI 2026 is a bilateral military exercise between the Special Forces of India and Indonesia.
- Host: The 11th edition of Exercise GARUDA SHAKTI 2026 is hosted by Indonesia at Banyuwangi.
- Contingents: The Indian contingent comprises troops from the Parachute Regiment (Special Forces), while the Indonesian contingent comprises personnel from the Indonesian Special Forces.
- Origin: The first edition was conducted in 2012 in India.
- Frequency: The exercise is conducted on a reciprocal basis, alternately in India and Indonesia.
- Objective: The exercise aims to strengthen mutual understanding, cooperation and interoperability between the Special Forces of both nations.
- Key Features
- Jungle Warfare Training: The training focuses on special operations in jungle environments.
- Training Activities: It includes obstacle crossing, combat marksmanship, mountaineering, air assault training and combat-hardening sessions.
- Knowledge Exchange: The exercise promotes the exchange of expertise and information on weapons, equipment and operational practices.
- Other Exercises: India and Indonesia also conduct Samudra Shakti (bilateral naval exercise) and IND-INDO CORPAT(coordinated naval patrol).
