News: India and South Korea have conducted their first-ever bilateral naval exercise “Exercise IN-RoKN”, marking a significant milestone in their growing maritime cooperation.
About Exercise IN-RoKN

- It is the first-ever bilateral naval exercise between India and South Korea.
- It is being conducted in Busan Naval Harbour, South Korea.
- Contingemts involved: The exercise involves the Indian Navy’s INS Sahyadri and units of the Republic of Korea Navy (RoKN).
- It is being held in two distinct phases: the harbour phase and the sea phase which are designed to enhance coordination and operational synergy between the two navies.
- Harbour phase: It includes professional exchanges, cross-deck visits, sports fixtures, and training interactions. These activities are intended to strengthen mutual understanding and interoperability between naval personnel.
- Sea phase: It features joint manoeuvres, tactical drills, and coordinated operations between the Indian and South Korean navies.
- These exercises are designed to enhance warfighting capability, improve communication procedures, and test coordinated response mechanisms in maritime operations.

About INS Sahyadri
- INS Sahyadri is an indigenously designed, constructed, and the third ship of the Shivalik Class Guided Missile Stealth Frigates.
- It was commissioned in 2012.
- The ship is based at Visakhapatnam as part of the Eastern Fleet under the aegis of the Eastern Naval Command.
