News: The 18th edition of Exercise NOMADIC ELEPHANT commenced at Pithoragarh, Uttarakhand, on 21 September 2026.
About Exercise NOMADIC ELEPHANT 2026

- Exercise NOMADIC ELEPHANT is a bilateral platoon-level military exercise between India and Mongolia.
- Started in: The exercise has been conducted since 2006.
- Frequency: It is conducted annually and alternately in India and Mongolia.
- Edition: The 2026 edition is the 18th edition.
- Previous edition was held at Ulaanbaatar, Mongolia, in May–June 2025.
- Aim: It aims to enhance joint military capability and interoperability for Counter-Insurgency Operations in semi-urban and mountainous terrain under the United Nations Mandate.
- Key Features of Exercise NOMADIC ELEPHANT 2026:
- Participation: The exercise involves 45 personnel each from the Indian Army and Mongolian Armed Forces.
- Tactical Training: It focuses on tactical-level operations, exchange of best practices and refinement of operational drills.
- Counter-Insurgency Drills: Training includes Cordon and Search Operations and Room Intervention Drills.
- Special Operations: The curriculum includes Special Heliborne Operations and Cyber Security Training.
- Drone Operations: Troops train in the employment of drones and counter-drone systems.
- Realistic Training: Both armies train together in realistic operational scenarios to strengthen interoperability and joint operations.
