News: The International Mathematical Union announced the 2026 Fields Medal winners at the International Congress of Mathematicians held in Philadelphia on July 23.

- Hong Wang (New York University and Institute for Advanced Scientific Studies, France):
- Hong Wang was recognized for major breakthroughs in harmonic analysis and geometric measure theory.
- Her work advanced the local smoothing conjecture, Fourier restriction, the Kakeya problem, Falconer distance sets, and Furstenberg sets.
- She is the third woman to ever win the Fields Medal in its 90-year history.
- Jacob Tsimerman (University of Toronto):
- Jacob Tsimerman received the medal for developing o-minimality as a fundamental method in arithmetic and complex algebraic geometry.
- He also contributed to the proof of major conjectures, including the Griffiths conjecture and the André-Oort conjecture.
- John Pardon (Stony Brook University):
- John Pardon was honoured for his contributions to symplectic geometry, geometry, and topology.
