News: The National Housing Bank (NHB) has launched the Gruh Sugam Portal to revolutionize housing finance accessibility.

  • It is a digital initiative to streamline the home loan process for Defence / Government personnel. 
  • Launched by: National Housing Bank (NHB)
  • It promotes digital lending adoption and strengthens financial inclusion by improving access to housing loans.
  • Features of the portal:
    • Who can apply: Defence Personnel, Members of Paramilitary Forces, Government Employees (State and Central) can apply for housing loans digitally through their respective administrative units.
    • It gives access to Unified Digital Marketplace that improves transparency and helps applicants discover the most suitable loan offers.
    • It provides seamless digital integration between NHB and lending institutions to ensure smoother operations.
    • It improves loan processing efficiency through a structured digital system.
    • It includes a grievance redressal mechanism and consumer protection support. It offers an online chat facility for quick resolution of queries.

About National Housing Bank (NHB)

  • It is the apex agency to promote cost effective housing finance system in India.
  • Set up: It was set up by an Act of Parliament in 1987.
  • Nodal Ministry: It operates under the Ministry of Finance.
  • Objective: To promote a sound, healthy, viable and cost effective housing finance system to cater to all segments of the population and to integrate the housing finance system with the overall financial system.
  • Head office: Its head office is at New Delhi.
