News: The Indian Navy recently hosted IONS Maritime Exercise (IMEX) TTX 2026 at Kochi on 27 March 2026.
About IMEX TTX 2026
- Indian Ocean Naval Symposium Maritime (IONS) Table-Top Exercise 2026 is a maritime exercise hosted by the Indian Navy at the Maritime Warfare Centre, Southern Naval Command, Kochi.
- Held on: It was held on 27th March 2026.
- Key objectives:
- Enhancing shared understanding of operational approaches and constraints
- Examining coordination mechanisms, including information sharing and decision-making processes
- Supporting refinement and validation of IONS maritime security guidelines through practical application
- Participants: The exercise brought together distinguished delegates from member navies of the IONS, international officers of IOS SAGAR, and officers of the Indian Navy.
- Participating countries: Bangladesh, France, Indonesia, Kenya, Maldives, Mauritius, Myanmar, Seychelles, Singapore, Sri Lanka, Tanzania and Timor-Leste.
- Features: It was conducted in a sophisticated simulated environment, allowing discussion of complex maritime security scenarios without live deployment constraints.
- It focused on evolving non-traditional maritime security challenges in the Indian Ocean Region (IOR).
About Indian Ocean Naval Symposium (IONS)
- It is a voluntary initiative that seeks to increase maritime co-operation among navies of the littoral states of the Indian Ocean Region by providing an open and inclusive forum for discussion of regionally relevant maritime issues.
- It endeavours to generate a flow of information between naval professionals leading to common understanding and co-operative solutions.
- Members: It currently comprises 25 member nations and 9 observer nations.
- India’s Membership: It was conceived by the Indian Navy in 2008.
- Chairmanship: The Chair is rotated every two years amongst members, with consensus on the selection of the Chair reached through mutual consultation.
- India’s chairmanship: India has assumed the Chairmanship of IONS on 20 Feb 2026.
