About India’s first Accreditation Scheme for Mobile Food Testing Laboratories
- The Accreditation Scheme for Mobile Food Testing Laboratories provides a framework for mobile food testing laboratories to offer quality-assured testing services closer to communities.
- Launched by: It was launched by the National Accreditation Board for Testing and Calibration Laboratories (NABL) under its Integrated Assessment Programme (IAP)..
- The NABL works under the Quality Council of India (QCI).
- Aim: The scheme aims to expand access to reliable, quality-assured and internationally benchmarked food testing services closer to communities.
- Key Features:
- Strengthening food safety: It is expected to strengthen food safety surveillance and support faster regulatory interventions.
- Improving access: It extends accredited food testing beyond conventional laboratories and brings testing services closer to communities.
- Enhancing confidence: It aims to improve access to quality testing and enhance consumer confidence.
- Integrated quality framework: The initiative also supports coordinated assessments, regulatory harmonization, mutual recognition and reduced duplication in assessment processes.
