News: INS Mangrol, the third Anti-Submarine Warfare Shallow Water Craft, was delivered to the Indian Navy.
About INS Mangrol
- INS Mangrol is the third Anti-Submarine Warfare Shallow Water Craft.
- Build by: It is built by Cochin Shipyard Limited (CSL), Kochi and was delivered to Indian Navy in 2026.
- Naming: It is named after the coastal town and minor port of ‘Mangrol’, located in Junagadh district of Gujarat, which is a prominent harbour for the marine fishing industry.
- It is designed to replace older Abhay-class anti-submarine corvettes and can also carry out low-intensity maritime operations and mine-laying missions.
- Features:
- Designed for: It has been built in India and is designed mainly for operations in shallow and coastal waters.
- Size: It is about 78 metres long, have a displacement of around 896 tonnes.
- Speed: It can reach a top speed of about 25 knots.
- Its design allows them to work effectively in shallow coastal waters where larger warships may not be as suitable.
- It is powered by waterjets.
- It carries modern torpedoes and anti-submarine rockets for underwater warfare.
- It also has advanced radar and sonar systems. These systems help the crew search for and track underwater targets.
- Weapons: It is equipped for underwater surveillance, Anti-Submarine Warfare (ASW) operations in coastal waters, Low-Intensity Maritime Operations (LIMO), along with mine warfare capabilities.
