News: An Indian Parliamentary Delegation led by Harivansh is participating in the 153rd IPU Assembly in Tanzania from 5th to 9th October.
About Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU)

- The Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU) is the global organisation of national parliaments.
- It promotes peace, democracy and sustainable development through parliamentary dialogue.
- Establishment: It began in 1889 as a small group of parliamentarians.
- Members: It has 183 Member Parliaments and 15 Associate Members.
- Headquarters: Geneva, Switzerland.
- Slogan: Its slogan is “For democracy. For everyone.”
- UN Status: The IPU collaborates closely with the United Nations and other global organisations.

- Governance Structure
- IPU Assembly: It is the principal statutory body that expresses IPU views on political issues and makes recommendations for action.

- Executive Committee: It includes the President, 15 elected members, and representatives of women and young parliamentarians.

About 153rd IPU Assembly
- Venue and Date: The Assembly is being held in Tanzania from 5th to 9th October.
- Indian Delegation: The delegation is led by Deputy Chairman of Rajya Sabha Harivansh.
- Participation: Indian delegates are participating in discussions on democracy, human rights, peace, sustainable development, women’s participation, science and technology.
