News: The Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY) has launched the IP Catalyst initiative and its accompanying digital platform.

  • Launched by: The Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY) has launched the IP Catalyst initiative and a digital platform to accelerate intellectual property commercialization and strengthen India’s innovation ecosystem in Electronics and IT.
  • Aim: It aims to enable a comprehensive digital ecosystem supporting the complete innovation lifecycle from research and IP creation to technology transfer, commercialization, and market deployment.
    • It also aims to bridge the gap between publicly funded R&D and industry adoption.
  • Implemented by: It is being implemented by CDAC Pune and supported by the MeitY. 
  • Key features:
    • It offers financial support for intellectual property (IP) filing to organisations under the MeitY and its grantee institutions.
    • It also provides assistance for international patent filing to startups and Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs).
    • It enables unified digital access to technology commercialization and IP support services, making it easier for innovators to manage and protect their intellectual property.
    • It offers prior-art search facilities and expert IP advisory services.
    • It supports technology readiness and maturity assessments to evaluate how close a technology is to commercialization.
    • It also provides IP valuation and commercialization support, helping innovators understand the market value of their technologies and identify commercialization opportunities.
    • It further facilitates technology transfer and licensing processes.
    • It promotes collaboration among industry, academia, and startups to strengthen the innovation ecosystem and accelerate research translation into market-ready solutions.
  • About Digital Platform
    • The digital platform, cipie.in, will function as a unified online gateway for IP and commercialization support services.
    • It will also serve as a national digital repository of technologies developed through MeitY-supported R&D initiatives.
      • This will enable startups, MSMEs, and the industry to identify deployable indigenous technologies and explore collaboration opportunities.
