ISRO setting up launch pad for Gaganyaan mission

- ISRO is planning to set up a third launch pad at Sriharikota and searching new location for the Small Satellite Launch Vehicles (SSLV) Launch Pad

- This will undertake the Gaganyaan mission (India’s 1st manned space programme)
- ISRO’s other two launch pads are already full for various launch programmes
- ISRO will use GSLV (Geosynchronous Satellite Launch Vehicle) Mk II launch vehicle for Gaganyaan, which can carry heavier payload

- ISRO is searching an area on western coast near Gujarat
- To offer affordable launch vehicle options for smaller satellites
Currently smaller satellites are being launched by ISRO on the PSLV (Polar Satellite Launch Vehicle) and GSLV ISRO is ready to transfer the entire SSLV to private industry
