Key facts about Guinea (Republic of Guinea)
- Location– It is a coastal country in western Africa.
- Capital– Conakry (Largest city of Guinea)
- Borders– It is bordered by Guinea-Bissau to the northwest, Senegal to the north, Mali to the northeast, Côte d’Ivoire to the southeast, and Liberia and Sierra Leone to the south. The Atlantic Ocean lies to the west.
- Rivers- Guinea is the source of three of West Africa’s major rivers: the Gambia, the Niger, and the Sénégal.
- Relief– Guinea consists of four geographic regions: Lower Guinea, the Fouta Djallon, Upper Guinea, and the Forest Region, or Guinea Highlands. The highest point in Guinea is Mount Nimba at 1,752 m (5,748 ft).
- Minerals– It is the world’s second-largest producer of bauxite after Australia. Guinea has significant deposits of iron, gold, and diamond.
