About Key Facts about Myanmar

- Location: Myanmar is the northernmost country of Southeast Asia and is located in the western portion of mainland Southeast Asia.
- Bordering Countries: It is bordered by India in the west, Bangladesh in the northwest, China in the north and northeast, Laos in the east, and Thailand in the southeast.
- Maritime Boundaries: It is bounded by the Andaman Sea in the south and the Bay of Bengal in the southwest.
- It has a contiguous coastline of 1,930 km along these water bodies.
- Geology: It is one of the most seismically prone countries in the world.
- The Sagaing Fault runs through the country between the Indian Plate and the Eurasian Plate.
- Climate: Myanmar experiences a tropical monsoon climate.

- Flora: Myanmar is highly biodiverse and contains more than 16,000 plant species. Oak, pine, rhododendrons, coconut, betel palm, and rubber are also found in different regions.
- Fauna: Myanmar has 314 mammal species, 1,131 bird species, 293 reptile species, and 139 amphibian species.
- Important wildlife includes tigers, rhinoceros, wild water buffalo, clouded leopard, elephants, deer, antelope, crocodiles, cobras, Burmese pythons, and turtles.
