  • Location: Myanmar is the northernmost country of Southeast Asia and is located in the western portion of mainland Southeast Asia.
  • Bordering Countries: It is bordered by India in the west, Bangladesh in the northwest, China in the north and northeast, Laos in the east, and Thailand in the southeast.
  • Maritime Boundaries: It is bounded by the Andaman Sea in the south and the Bay of Bengal in the southwest.
    • It has a contiguous coastline of 1,930 km along these water bodies.
  • Geology: It is one of the most seismically prone countries in the world.
    • The Sagaing Fault runs through the country between the Indian Plate and the Eurasian Plate.
  • Climate: Myanmar experiences a tropical monsoon climate.
  • Mountain Range: Major mountain ranges include Bago Yoma, Rakhine Yoma, Shan Hills, Tenasserim Hills, Rakhine Mountains, Shan Plateau, and Dawna Range, and many of these ranges run from north to south.
  • Highest Peak: Hkakabo Razi, located in Kachin State at an elevation of 5,881 m, is the highest point in Myanmar.
  • Major River: Myanmar is drained by the Irrawaddy, Chindwin, Salween, Mekong, Sittang, and Yangon Riversystems.
    • The Irrawaddy River, at nearly 2,170 km, is the country’s longest river.
  • Vegetation:Myanmar has tropical and subtropical vegetation, seasonally inundated wetlands, shoreline and tidal systems, alpine ecosystems, and dense tropical forest cover over more than 49% of its land area.
  • Flora: Myanmar is highly biodiverse and contains more than 16,000 plant species. Oak, pine, rhododendrons, coconut, betel palm, and rubber are also found in different regions.
  • Fauna: Myanmar has 314 mammal species, 1,131 bird species, 293 reptile species, and 139 amphibian species.
    • Important wildlife includes tigers, rhinoceros, wild water buffalo, clouded leopard, elephants, deer, antelope, crocodiles, cobras, Burmese pythons, and turtles.
