Biography of UPSC CSE AIR 45 MALVIKA G NAIR

• Birth and Domicile: Malvika G Nair was born in Kottayam, Kerala, a land known for its rich cultural heritage and academic excellence. Growing up in God’s own country, she imbibed the values of resilience. Growing up in God’s own country, she imbibed the values of resilience and humility that would later define her UPSC journey.

• Family Background: Hailing from a family of professionals, Malvika was raised with strong role models. Her father, Shri. Ajith Kumar KG served as Assistant General Manager in Kerala Financial Corporation. Her Mother is a medical professional who has instilled in her the values of compassion. Her proud parents’ emphasis on education and discipline laid the foundation of her success. 

• Educational Background: Malvika’s academic journey is marked by consistent brilliance. She scored exceptionally well in class 10th with 97.14% and in class 12th, 96.4%, showing her immense potential from the very beginning. She completed her graduation in Chemical Engineering from BITS Pilani in 2016. She also earned a minor degree in English studies and Creative writing, showcasing her multidisciplinary approach. 

• Previous Work Experience: Before becoming an IAS officer, Malvika served as an Assistant Commissioner (Income Tax Department, GoI), a position she secured through UPSC CSE 2019 in her third attempt. This experience enriched her administrative acumen while she continued preparing for her ultimate goal. 

• UPSC Preparation Journey: Malvika’s path to AIR 45 was one of grit and perseverance. She secured success in her third attempt as an Indian Revenue Service Officer, but her ultimate success as an IAS in the form of ALL India Rank came in her 6th attempt. In her later preparation phase, she has shown a balanced approach of a full-time job and preparation. She has also leveraged her engineering analytical skills and her sociology optional expertise, which has played a crucial role in bringing her this dream rank. 

• Medium of Exam: English

• No. UPSC CSE attempts: IRS in her 3rd attempt and finally IAS in her 6th attempt. Her journey is a testament to her unshakable determination. Her journey proves that success is inevitable for those who refuse to quit.  

• Optional Subject: Sociology

• Extracurricular achievements: Beyond academics, Malvika is a multifaceted personality. She is a green belt holder in Kung Fu, which instilled in her discipline and focus. She is also a Bharatnatyam dancer showcasing her artistic expression. She also practices Zen meditation, helping her maintain mental resilience.
