MiG-27 crashes in Jodhpur, pilot ejects to safety

  1. A MIG-27 fighter aircraft of the Indian Air Force has crashed in Jodhpur, Rajasthan.However,the pilot was ejected out successfully.Further,Court of Inquiry has been ordered into the incident.
  2. This is the second time in 2019 a MiG 27 has crashed.Earlier,MiG 27 aircraft went down near Pokhran range in Rajasthan.The pilot was ejected safely before the fighter aircraft hit the ground.
  3. The Mikoyan MiG-27 is a variable-geometry ground-attack aircraft, originally built by the Mikoyan-Gurevich design bureau in the Soviet Union.It was later produced in India by Hindustan Aeronautics as the Bahadur(Valiant).It is based on the Mikoyan-Gurevich MiG-23 fighter aircraft but optimized for air-to-ground attack.
  4. Unlike the MiG-23,the MiG-27 did not see widespread use outside Russia as most countries opted for the MiG-23BN and Sukhoi Su-22 instead.MIG 27 remains in service with the Indian,Kazakhstan and Sri Lankan Air Forces in the ground attack role.All Russian and Ukrainian MiG-27s have been retired.
