About Muscat Plan of Action

• Muscat Plan of Action is a global framework that places traditional and indigenous leaders at the centre of efforts to counter hate speech and prevent atrocity crimes.
• Led by: It is the outcome of a multi-stakeholder process led by the Sultanate of Oman, the UN Office on Genocide Prevention and the Responsibility to Protect (UNOSAPG), and the Network for Religious and Traditional Peacemakers. 
• Co- hosted by: It was co-hosted by the UN Alliance of Civilisations (UNAOC), which promotes peaceful, inclusive and just societies through intercultural and interreligious dialogue. 
• Significance: It is an initiative that highlights the role of traditional and Indigenous leaders in promoting peace and strengthening social cohesion.  
  • It offers recommendations for strengthening their engagement in efforts to counter hate speech, prevent genocide and related atrocity crimes, and build peaceful, inclusive, and just societies.

Its activities are undertaken around the five pillars of Education, Youth, Migration, Media, and Women as peace mediators in identity-based settings.
