About 
  • The Musi River flows through Telangana. 
  • It is a major tributary of the Krishna River in the Deccan Plateau.
  • It is also known as the Muchukunda, Moosa or Musunuru River.
Origin Anantagiri Hills, Vikarabad district, Telangana (about 90 km west of Hyderabad).
Tributary 
  • The river is formed by two tributaries, Esi and Musa, which merge before entering Hyderabad.
  • The Esa and Musa converge at the ‘Tipu Khan bridge sangam’.
Confluence It ultimately merges with the Krishna River near Wazirabad in Nalgonda district.
Length  It has an aggregate length of 250 km.
Course of the river
  • The Musi River flows eastward through Hyderabad, historically separating the Old City from the New City.
  • The river also flows past Charminar, Purana Pul, and Afzal Gunj, making it a heritage corridor.
Dams constructed over river
  • Osman Sagar (1920) and Himayat Sagar (1927) are two major dams. 
  • The river also has 24 diversion weirs, locally known as kathwas  which are used for irrigation.
Importance The river supports urban development, irrigation, and preserves a heritage landscape in Telangana.
