Citizenship (Amendment) bill to be tabled today

The Citizenship (Amendment) Bill will be tabled in Loksabha on Dec 9. It intends to amend the Citizenship Act 1955. It seeks to grant citizenship to illegal non-muslims from Bangladesh, Pakistan, and Afghanistan, who came to India on or before December 31, 2014.

6 years on, Lokpal is yet to get prosecution wing

Several key provisions of Lokpal Act, 2013,has still not been operationalised. For example – Section 60 of the Act empowers the Lokpal to make regulations on ‘the manner and procedure of conducting preliminary enquiry’. Till now no such regulations have been made. Similarly Complaints formats, rules for disclosure of assets and liabilities and investigation regulations are yet to be notified.

States are asking centre to move cutoff date for ending compensation to the States from 2020-21 to 2026-17. Many states have expressed comprehensions on delay and inadequate compensation.
