News: The Department of Animal Husbandry and Dairying is inviting the nominations for the National Gopal Ratna Awards 2026.
About National Gopal Ratna Awards (NGRA)

- The National Gopal Ratna Awards are the highest national honours in India’s livestock and dairy sector across three award categories.
- They recognize excellence among dairy farmers, cooperatives and artificial insemination technicians in India’s dairy sector.
- Nodal Agency: Department of Animal Husbandry and Dairying
- Presented on: The awards are presented on November 26 as part of the National Milk Day celebrations every year.
- Starting: These awards are instituted under the Rashtriya Gokul Mission which was launched in 2014.
- They have been presented annually since 2021.
- Different Categories of Award
- Best Dairy farmer rearing indigenous cattle/buffalo breeds.
- Best Dairy Cooperative Society (DCS)/ Milk producer Company (MPC)/ Dairy Farmer Producer Organization (FPO).
- Best Artificial Insemination Technician (AIT).
- There is a provision of Special award for North Eastern Region (NER) and Himalayan States so as to encourage and boost the dairy development activities in these States/UTs.
- Awards consist of –
- Best Dairy Farmer and Best Dairy Cooperative/FPO/MPC – These awards include a certificate, memento and cash prize of –
- Cash prizes are ₹5 lakh for first place,
- ₹3 lakh for second place and
- ₹2 lakh for third place and
- ₹2 lakh for North Eastern Region (NER)/Himalayan States.
- Best Artificial Insemination Technician awards include a certificate and memento, with no cash prize.
- Best Dairy Farmer and Best Dairy Cooperative/FPO/MPC – These awards include a certificate, memento and cash prize of –
