  1. Scientists have recently theorised the origin of Hippocamp- one among Neptune’s moons. Originally designated as S/2004 N 1 and Neptune XIV, this moon was found in images taken by NASA’s Hubble Space Telescope in 2004–05 and 2009. It was then confirmed in further images captured in 2016. The Hubble Space Telescope (HST) is a space telescope that was launched into low Earth orbit in 1990 and remains in operation.
  2. Hippocamp, smallest moon yet discovered in orbit around Neptune, is named after a mythical half-horse, half-fish sea creature.
  3. Scientists have theorized that Hippocamp was formed from the debris created billions of years ago when a comet collided with Proteus- Neptune’s largest moon. Neptune is the eighth and farthest known planet from the Sun in the Solar System
