News: The National Investigation Agency (NIA) is organising a two day ‘Anti-Terror Conference 2024’ in New Delhi from tomorrow.

1. The National Investigation Agency (NIA) is an Indian federal agency tasked with investigating and combating terrorism and other national security threats that affect the sovereignty, integrity, and security of India.

2. NIA derives its power from the National Investigation Agency Act, 2008, which was passed following the Mumbai Terror Attacks (26/11).

3. It investigates scheduled offences related to terrorism, organised crimes, terror funding, explosive substances, hijacking etc.

4. The central government has constituted various special courts for the trial of scheduled offences.

5. It is headquartered in New Delhi and functions under the Ministry of Home Affairs.

6. Some of the high-profile cases handled by NIA include Mumbai Terror Attacks (2008), Hyderabad Blasts (2013), Pulwana Attack (2019).
