News: The Panchayat Se Parliament 2.0 programme was inaugurated by the Lok Sabha Speaker on 6th January 2025 to commemorate the 150th birth anniversary of Bhagwan Birsa Munda.

About Panchayat Se Parliament 2.0

  • Objective: The primary aim is to:
    • Empower elected women representatives from Scheduled Tribes in Panchayati Raj Institutions (PRIs) by enhancing their knowledge of constitutional provisions, parliamentary procedures, and governance.
    • Recognise the contributions of these representatives in areas such as education and rural development.
  • Participants: The programme brings together 502 elected women representatives from Scheduled Tribes (STs) across 22 states and Union Territories in India
  • Organised by– National Commission for Women (NCW), in collaboration with the Lok Sabha Secretariat and the Ministry of Tribal Affairs.
  • Key features:
    • Workshops and Sessions: The programme includes interactive workshops and sessions led by experts and Members of Parliament (MPs), focusing on democratic values and governance skills.
    • Guided Tours: Participants will also have guided tours of important sites like the New Parliament House, Samvidhan Sadan, Pradhanmantri Sangrahalaya, and Rashtrapati Bhavan to familiarize them with India’s political heritage.
  • Previous Initiative: The programme is an extension of Panchayat Se Parliament 2024, which involved 500 women sarpanch from across India.
