Explanation – The Aral Sea, a once-large saltwater lake of Central Asia, shared the boundary between Kazakhstan to the north and Uzbekistan to the south. The sea was once the fourth-largest body of water in the world, but it has been reduced to a fraction of its original area. It encompasses drainage from Uzbekistan and parts of Kazakhstan, Tajikistan, Afghanistan, Turkmenistan, Iran, and Kyrgyzstan.
