News: The Department of Health Research-Indian Council of Medical Research will organise the second edition of S.H.I.N.E. on 11–12 August 2026 across 83 locations.

  • S.H.I.N.E. stands for Science, Health and Innovation for NextGen Explorer.
  • It  is a nationwide student outreach programme.
  • Launched by: The initiative was launched by the Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR) in August 2025 as an annual initiative.
  • Goal: It aims to ignite scientific curiosity, foster innovation, and inspire students to pursue careers in biomedical research, science and public health.
  • Beneficiaries: It invites students of Grades 9 to 12 from government, government-aided and private schools across India.
  • Alignment with: The initiative is aligned with India’s Viksit Bharat 2047 vision and the Prime Minister’s call for students to spend “One Day as a Scientist.”
  • Key Features:
    • Scientific Exposure: Students can explore research through guided laboratory tours, research exhibitions, poster walks, video presentations and live demonstrations.
    • Interaction with Scientists: Students can interact directly with ICMR scientists and learn about their research, expertise and work in public health.
    • Nationwide Reach: The 2026 edition will be held across 83 locations.
