News: The Sabarmati River in Ahmedabad remains dry after Vasna barrage repairs halted water flow for bridge and barrage construction works.
About Sabarmati River

- It is a major west-flowing and monsoon-fed river flowing through Rajasthan and Gujarat.
- Origin: The river originates from the Aravalli hills near village Tepur in Udaipur district of Rajasthan.
- Boundaries: The basin is bounded by Aravalli hills on the north and north-east, Rann of Kutch on the west, and Gulf of Khambhat on the south.
- Course: The Sabarmati River flows in a south-west direction from Rajasthan into Gujarat, passes through the Dharoi gorge, flows across the plains, and later passes through Ahmedabad city.
- Falls into: The river finally falls into the Gulf of Khambhat in the Arabian Sea.
- Length: The total length of the river is 371 km, including 48 km in Rajasthan and 323 km in Gujarat.
- Tributaries: Left bank tributaries include Wakal, Harnav, Hathmati, and Watrak, while Sei is the major right bank tributary.
- Ecological Zones: It has three distinct ecological zones consisting of rocky uplands in Rajasthan, middle alluvial plains, and a lower estuarine zone near the Gulf of Khambhat.
- Major Water Infrastructure Projects: Important projects include Dharoi Dam, Vasna Barrage, Hathmati Dam, Harnav Dam, Guhai Dam, Watrak Dam, Meshvo Reservoir, and the planned Kalpasar Project.
