About Science Panel for the Global Energy Transition (SPGET)

- It is a global science-based panel that provides policy-relevant advice to accelerate transition away from fossil fuels.
- Launched: It was launched on April 24, 2026 in Santa Marta, Colombia.
- Origin: Its creation follows calls made during the plenary of COP30 in Belém, Brazil.
- Mission: It aims to provide fast, science-based, and policy-relevant advice to governments for accelerating energy transition efforts.
- Objective: It seeks to develop country and sector-level milestones aligned with limiting global warming to 1.5°C and guide fossil fuel phase-out policies.
- Backing: It is backed by the Brazilian COP30 Presidency and supported by the Dutch Ministry of Climate Policy and Green Growth and Colombia’s Ministry of Environment and Sustainable Development.
- Key Highlights of SPGET:
- Global Participation: The launch conference brought together representatives from more than 56 countries to build a global coalition.
- Policy Guidance: It will produce analyses, policy briefs, and country-level engagement to support nationally determined contributions and sectoral strategies.
- Scientific Approach: It focuses on accessible evidence, latest science, and actionable insights for just and orderly transitions.
