About Sirhind Fateh Divas of Baba Banda Singh Bahadur Ji

- Sirhind Fateh Divas is observed annually to commemorate the victory of Baba Banda Singh Bahadur over Sirhind on May 14, 1710.
- Baba Banda Singh Bahadur Ji: He was a great Sikh warrior and commander who established the first independent Khalsa rule in Punjab .
- Origins: He was born as Lachman Dev in the Rajouri region of present-day Jammu & Kashmir and later became a disciple of Guru Gobind Singh.
- Key Contributions:
- Military Achievements: He defeated the Mughals and liberated large parts of North India from oppressive Mughal rule.
- On May 14, 1710, his forces captured Sirhind and ended the oppressive Mughal regime in the region.
- Support for Farmers: He organized farmers against injustice and promoted more equitable access to resources.
- Land Reforms: He abolished the Zamindari system and granted property rights directly to cultivators.
- Economic Measures: He introduced Nanak Shahi coins as a symbol of Sikh sovereignty.
- Message of Courage and Faith: He was captured by Mughal ruler Farrukhsiyar, but despite severe torture, he refused religious conversion and attained martyrdom at Mehrauli, Delhi.
- Military Achievements: He defeated the Mughals and liberated large parts of North India from oppressive Mughal rule.
