Terrestrial Ecosystem in UP- Vision 2030

What is the Vision Plan 2030 of Uttar Pradesh Government with reference to the terrestrial ecosystem in the State?

Vision Plan 2030 of the UP Government is a step in the direction of localization of SDG 15 (Life on Land).Its key features are the following:

1. a) Dissemination of sustainable agricultural practices (bio fertilizers); b) promotion of water use efficiency (soil water management); c) reclamation of degraded lands (UP Sodic Land Reclamation Project).
2. a) Adoption of world-class forest management practices (vertical canopy afforestation, nursery management); b) large scale plantation for increasing the green cover (up to 15% of state’s geographical area).
3. Management of wetland resources with a focus on both qualitative and quantitative aspects (Zero Liquid Discharge policy, adoption of National Wetlands Strategy).
4. a) Emphasis on capacity building of communities dependent on land resources by strengthening local institutions (SHGs); b) introducing participatory management practices (JFM committees).
5. a) Inculcation of conservation ethics in people’s minds (visits by children to wildlife parks); b) sustainable harvesting of goods and services from biological resources (in-situ biodiversity banks,forest certification).
6. a) Support for strong institutions (RGSA*); b) rich research and academic environment (gene engineering); c) public-private partnership (CSR for social forestry programmes).

The Vision 2030 demonstrates UP’s commitment to protecting, restoring and promoting sustainable use of terrestrial ecosystems for sustainable growth and inclusive development.
