News: India is hosting the World Circular Economy Forum 2026 in Gandhinagar from September 15 to 18, for the first time in South Asia.
About World Circular Economy Forum 2026
- World Circular Economy Forum (WCEF) is an annual global forum for sharing solutions and advancing the transition towards a circular economy.
- Origin: It was launched in 2017 by the Finnish Innovation Fund Sitra.
- Official Partner: The United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) is an official partner of WCEF .
- 2026 Edition: It is the 10th edition of the World Circular Economy Forum.
- Host: India is hosting the 10th edition of the World Circular Economy Forum in Gandhinagar, Gujarat.
- Theme: The theme is “Circular Economy: Transition for People and Prosperity.”
- Organized by: The forum is jointly organized by the Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB), Finnish Innovation Fund Sitra, Government of Finland, Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change, Government of Gujarat and Gujarat Pollution Control Board.
- Aim: The forum aims to promote global cooperation, circular finance, private-sector investment, policy dialogue, cross-sectoral partnerships, and innovation for sustainable production and consumption.
- Key Features:
- Global participation: More than 2,000 stakeholders from over 65 countries will participate.
- Circular solutions expo: An international expo with more than 125 exhibitors will showcase practical circular economy solutions.
- Thematic discussions: The main programme will feature 4 plenary sessions and 16 parallel thematic sessions.
- These sessions will cover artificial intelligence, employment potential, energy production, finance, governance, sustainable products, industrial solutions, start-up ecosystems and youth leadership.
- International cooperation: WCEF 2026 will feature the 10 Year Framework of Programmes on Sustainable Consumption and Production Patterns (10 YFP) Board meeting.
- India will co-chair the meeting, while global collaborators will organise 80 accelerator sessions.
